On June 1, 2006, a group of 22 baptized believers assembled themselves at 616 West Kiest Boulevard in Dallas, TX. The purpose of this assembly was to organize the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church.
To assist in this organization, three prominent Pastors of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex were asked to come and guide this group of people in their quest for church organization. The late Reverend Doctor Abraham E. Campbell; the late Reverend Doctor Cedric D.; and the Reverend Bruce D. Datcher moderated this organizational meeting.
On that evening, Dr. Campbell accepted the nomination of the Reverend Doctor Patrick R. Rucker to be the first Pastor of this flock. By unanimous vote, Dr. Rucker was voted to be the first Pastor of the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church. Twelve of the 22 people assembled became charter members of the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Dr. Campbell, Dr. Britt and Rev. Datcher encouraged the Koinonia family to support their newly elected Pastor and to keep Isaiah 40:8 – “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. “
On June 4, 2006 at 10:00 a.m., the first service of the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church was held at 616 West Kiest Boulevard. A total of 56 people were in attendance of a spirit-filled worship service.
October 29, 2006, Dr. Rucker was installed as the first Pastor of the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church.
Since becoming pastor, Dr. Rucker has instilled in this congregation the true meaning of Koinonia. Koinonia means fellowship. The eternal value statement of the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church is hinged upon I John 1:3-4, “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.”
The Church Value Statement is a shared love; a shared mission; a shared concern for each other; and a shared conviction about the Word of God. All are invited to come and “experience a joy worth sharing” at the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church.
On January 18, 2014, the church was displaced from the worship address of 616 Kiest Blvd. We began worshipping at the Greater Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. On June 19, 2014, the church entered in agreement to purchase the church building at 3206 South Tyler Street and the adjoining property located at 3212 Tyler Street. On September 7, 2014 celebrated the entrance services into our present location.
Under the pastorate of Dr. Rucker, our church membership has grown and continues to grow spiritually and numerically.
The Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church has affiliated with the Northwestern District Association, the Baptist Missionary and Education Convention of Texas, and the National Baptist Convention, USA., Inc.
We borrow the lyrics of a well known hymnologist who penned the words to the song, We’ve come this far by faith, leaning on the Lord; trusting in his holy word.
He’s never failed us yet. Oh! We can’t turn around; we’ve come this far by faith.
We look forward to the Lord continuing to enrich our history until He Lord returns for His church. May God Bless the Koinonia Missionary Baptist Church!
